A perfect blend of melody, guitar sound, melancholy and poetry make this Pernice's best album. Comparing it with the others, I'm a little surprised that I end up preferring it to "Yours, Mine and Ours," which I've always thought of as a masterpiece. In the long run, this one ages better and feels more personal and idiosyncratic, more of a unique individual statement. ... I started listening to this when I was living in a remote town in downstate Illinois without a car. It was the perfect accompaniment to riding a bike around on deserted streets with bags of groceries hanging from the handlebars. I bought a $300 car in time to drive to St. Louis for a perfect Pernice Brothers show.
