Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 17% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 74.0/100, a mean average of 72.9/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 74.5/100. The standard deviation for this album is 13.7.

Yeah what he said. It's brilliant! And right alongside "Southeastern" in quality and emotion and a certain flowing naturalness. I think every album I've heard by Isbell is fantastic. This may be my 2nd fave release of his just behind Southeastern. Just fabulous!

God bless you and Jason always!

This is the first of his post-Truckers albums that feels completely right. I get the impression that he struggled to fit into the rock mold of that band, and continued to struggle on his first two solo albums. This one is a nice mix of laid back blues-rock and soul, in that Muscle Shoals tradition, and finds him doing what he does best: telling sad stories about tragic characters.
