Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 3% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 77.8/100, a mean average of 77.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 78.0/100. The standard deviation for this album is 16.1.

Definitely an influential album, I really like the sound of the first half and then it drifts into a hardcore punk territory that I like less. Overall I like this album, but preferred Zen Arcade.
This record is just completely full of energy and its loud and aggressive nature clearly had an influence on later grunge bands that came around in the 90's. The instrumental performances are full of emotion and it is so easy to ride through the album on their passion alone. The guitar work is fantastic with it backing up the howling vocals perfectly. The frantic drumming is great also and never really lets up for the majority of the record. You can definitely see the powerful tracks on this record and it is so easy to pick them out. These songs are New Day Rising, I Apologize, The Girl Who Lives On Heaven Hill, Celebrated Summer and Books About UFOs. The majority of the other tracks, whilst they maintain the style and spirit of the sound, are more like filler cuts and don't hit as high as the big songs. This leads to quite an unbalanced listen and it does make the record not feel very cohesive. Overall, a strong record by this group that is full of life but its let down by its inability to remain consistent.
Like the Nevermind of the 80s, but better.

This album met my mood better today than in my previous efforts to check out Hüsker Dü. Definitely poppier than I remember.

Hüsker Dü continue to push the formula they presented on Zen Arcade, and though it is less successful in its efforts, New Day Rising is a great album nonetheless.
Too loud and too aggressive for my taste, but I could find out few fine tracks, like Celebrated summer.
Clearly a huge influence on later alternative/grunge bands, this album should totally be ranked higher on this site.

Amazing.
