Glad that you enjoyed her, so influential..She reminds me a little of Rickie lee Jones (1979-present) who I am sure that you are familiar with although she is also not on this website. I guess RLJ is more like a cross between Tom Waits(who she dated) and Laura Nyro, If you haven't heard her before, sometime you might check out "We Belong together", "Runaround", "Living it up", and "Juke Box Fury", more intricate arrangements but I can hear LN's influence in her music.

This album was actually released on Verve in 1966 when she was 19. She of course was the first successful singer/songwriter and all of her songs were recorded by dozens of pop vocalists but I enjoy her versions of her songs the most. This album didn't get any airplay of any kind, so this album just kind of sat there in a category all its own until "Tapestry" came out in 1971. She spent the last 17 years of her life with her partner, Maria. I remember where I was when I heard that she died in 1997, I was in grad school in Madison, WI..such a sad day, she was only 50. It's like an emotional shockwave reverberates around the world...it becomes a different place than it was 5 minutes before. Who will take her place? Who will comment about life with the same powers of observation? Someone fills the void but not in the same way..every time a great poet, writer, filmmaker, artist dies, I become different person as well, it is uncomfortable, I hate change.

I have never even heard of her, but I'm sure i'll like it, late 60's singer/songwriter music, is the best music out there, thanks for commenting on it for me to realise it is out there Ff
Another great forgotten artist. Ms. Nyro was not only a wonderful song writer but a truly gifted vocalist.
