Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 71.0/100, a mean average of 70.4/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 70.4/100. The standard deviation for this album is 13.7.

Not nearly as bold as their future work, but being able to totally nail a straight forward jazz rap album for their debut is impressive
Brian Coleman talks quite a bit about this album in his 'Check The Technique' chapter about their official debut 'Do You Want More?!!!??!' (which you should definitely go read if you haven't) and it's amazing how good this album is considering the history of it. The time and money put into this album was next to nothing, yet it is still came out a classic in my opinion.
Yes they improved their sound with their official debut 2 years later, and then again with 'Illadelph Halflife' in '96, but this album is an essential listen for any hip hop junkie because it shows you the evolution of the groups talent.
And yes there are some filler sounding tracks in he lineup, but there are also some classics, like 'Pass The Popcorn' or 'Grits'. Try to think of 'Organix' as more of a demo and I think you'll find it a very interesting listen.
