I Black Angels prendono il nome verosimilmente dalla canzone dei Velvet che fece cacciare dal locale dove suonavano Lou Reed & co., ma che "le direzioni" verso cui guardano siano indietro nel tempo di almeno quarant'anni ed avvolte dalle nebbie lisergiche lo si capisce innanzitutto dalla copertina, poi dalla musica contenuta nei loro dischi, non solo in questo. Ci sono i Doors dimentichi del blues ed i Pink Floyd post Barrett più estremi, ma poi c'è molto altro, che proviene dalla fine del decennio successivo; il dark, Siouxsie, la new wave più oscura. Ci vuole fegato e talento nel proporre una miscela del genere alla fine degli anni duemila ed i Black Angels ce l'hanno; purtroppo l'altro lato della medaglia è rappresentato da una pesantezza che cresce per tutti i settanta (!) minuti del disco…
