Back when I tried a lot of Christian pop/rock, I came across a tape of this in a Salvation Army shop and something about the cover told me he/it was a little more "legit" than other Christian pop/rock artists/albums I'd heard. That tape turned out to be faulty, but I later found the album on vinyl and actually paid quite a bit of money for it. In the end I resold it and I don't know if I'd want to listen to it now, but if I ever made a top 10 CCM albums, I'm sure I'd include this one. I suppose you could almost compare him to the "part-time gospel singers" e.g Johnny Cash, singing about God and faith and stuff, but not as though he's superior to, beyond and above the world with all its difficult reality.
