Los británicos se convirtieron en los noventa en los reyes absolutos del Gothic y el Doom, bien aderezados con toques aquí y allá de Death Metal. Tras un inmenso 'Icon' publicado en 1993, 'Draconian Times' supone para muchos fanáticos de Paradise Lost su obra cumbre. Refinaron su sonido haciéndolo más accesible y el resultado no pudo ser mejor, pues el trabajo entra solo y sabe conservar la esencia y el dramatismo propios de un grupo de semejante nivel. La primera vez que escuché 'Draconian Times' me voló la cabeza y canciones como "The Last Time" se ha ganado de por vida un hueco en cualquier lista de reproducción que haga. Un disco perfecto para adentrarse en el sonido Paradise Lost con un Nick Holmes apoteósico, derrochando voz y un Gregor Mackintosh que se sale en los solos y en la composición. Lo fúnebre jamás volvió a estar tan vivo.
