This is just grandeur plus. Everything on this just injects power. And even the softer tracks and ballads ooze with atmosphere. Up there with their best. Top class band and album
This is the album that got me into Nightwish. For me, the album was a little more accessible than their previous efforts, whilst retaining the power sound. This is an album I tend to listen throughout as their as it is full of great songs.
An outstanding, eclectic album that shows the band continuing to progress. They improved with virtually every release (though Wishmaster was a slight regression, in my opinion, due to an over-reliance on power metal). Their next album would take it even further. Anette is pretty good here, but she'll get better on the next release. The Poet and the Pendulum is a Nightwish staple, and Bye Bye Beautiful/Amaranth were huge hits in Europe. The only tune I dislike on the album is For the Heart I Once Had, though I'm also a little iffy on Master Passion Greed/Whoever Brings the Night.
