Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 2% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 78.0/100, a mean average of 77.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 78.2/100. The standard deviation for this album is 13.7.

This summed up my early teens when I first heard this album, Full of angst and horror, I remember it well and this album reminds me of those feelings even to this day decades later.

This is a surprisingly good album for debut and for the genre it represents, Mad World is true masterpiece of 80s music, but the whole record is pretty solid.

Tears for Fears really stands out from the rest in relation from synth-oriented pop tunes, they really new how to do it smartly. The Hurting, for this case, is an good debut.

Decent British 80's synth pop album, not one of my favourites but it does contain the classic Mad World, and closely followed by (the also very good) Change and Suffer The Children.

I still remember hearing the beginning of Change on a Windsor alternative station at 1am and ran out the next day to buy the album. One of the few darker moodier albums that I can listen too over and over again
