Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 12% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 75.0/100, a mean average of 74.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 75.2/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.4.

Stand out tracks "Sowing the seeds of love" and "Year of the knife".
Beautiful album. Great themes. Great production. Great songs.
Okay, Advice for the Young at Heart might be my favorite song of the 80's
Best track: "Swords And Knives"
Weakest track: "Badman's Song"
I really hate this album. The Hurting and Songs from the Big Chair are such amazing albums, this one does nothing for me. It was still a big hit back in the day, just not on my play list
Overlooked record I know have in my collection, amazing.
Better than other albums, I think some songs drag for too long. Whatever this deserves more
A very underrated album, I think it gets far too much stick. Although I find some tracks to be weak, side 1 is superb and "Woman in Chains" and "Sowing the Seeds of Love" are among my favourite songs of all time.
Find this album underrated, it's a really good. I must be in the minority here who views this album in a positive way. Favorite tracks are Badman's Song, Sowing The Seeds Of Love, Advice For The Young At Heart, Year Of The Knife, and Famous Last Words
Rufus isn't far off. It seems it needs another edit before it hits the level of their top work.
First half is simply amazing.
