Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 52.5/100, a mean average of 50.5/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 50.5/100. The standard deviation for this album is 26.2.

Fun and exciting songs largely make up for the minimal filler.

Like all Katy Perry albums, it's careful melodic stiching and over-produced feel is more than apparent, but she has seemed to have expunged her worst tendecies as performer and songwriter even if she has only incremently grown on both fronts. More relaxed than her last album, tosses in the obligatory answer to "Firework" with "Roar" and "Dark Horse" is a softer "E.T" but otherwise it's more about the vibe than the Big Hit Tracks. Lacks any remarkable moments, but there are some unusually interesting experiments here and there (THOSE BOLLYWOOD CHIMES), though it's unlikely Katy Perry will ever rise above being an average songwriter and composer if this is the most she's capable of.

The hit singles are cheeseball duds but Legendary Lovers, Unconditionally, By the Grace of God, and the bonus track It Takes Two are all fantastic

I hate pretty much every pop album except this one. This one feels mature and listen-able. Best songs: Roar, Legendary Lovers, and Dark Horse.

Missed the mark from her prior work. Weak melodies, weaker lyrics.

Nothing to really get excited about, positively or negatively... It's OK.

It's about 60/40 catchy songs/bland pop filler. What it lacks is a really great track like "Teenage Dream."
