A really unique-sounding album, even for Jethro Tull. The traditional English folk approach blends surprisingly effectively with Tull's hard rock ethos. It sounds like the soundtrack to the nerdiest game of Dungeons and Dragons ever conceived. Recommended. Even if you don't love it (and I'm not even sure *I* do), there's enough here to at least keep you occupied and keep you thinking. (Edited)

To me this is merely a good Tull album which you should get to only once you digested their masterpieces but a lot of people put it among the essential Tull albums. I find that although this album hardly has any weak moments, it also does not really have any exceptional memorable moments. But definitely a good album.
A very consistent record until after the whistler where the quality slows down a bit but it is still decent. The music and lyrics are unique and suit the style of Jethro Tull perfectly. This is mainly due to the flute which works wonders on this album and is always one of my favourite aspects of their releases. The title track is brilliant as well and has a lot of great instrumental performances present on there. However, the album does feel a little slow at times and I never find myself getting drawn back to listen again. Nothing really astounds me in this record either and I think it could do with a bit more energy. Overall, an album I enjoy when I play it but I don't think it is better or near their superior records. (Edited)
For me this is one of their essentials, where they skilfully blended English folk music with highly charged rock, fitting their style and sound perfectly. I could also be a bit biased as the positivity I found in this record got me through a very tough time in my life.
Although Aqualung is a masterpiece album without doubt, I actually prefer this album, it is much more upbeat and the musical direction twists and turns constantly. I particularly like Jack in the Green and Hunting Girl. Solstice Bells is great Christmas song, full of cheer!
