You know, I wanted to dislike this EP. So much of Carey’s personality is bound up in her holiday music, that one forgets she had an early career in gospel-inflected pop-soul that suits her vocal acrobatics so well. The MTV show in question was designed to showcase Carey as an artist beyond the studio, and this does that in spades.
