Songs from the Movie is the thirteenth studio album by Mary Chapin Carpenter, released in 2014 on Zoe/Rounder Records.
With no such movie to speak of, this "soundtrack" is a beautiful tribute to Carpenter's finest original ballads. Beautifully produced, this set energizes and emboldens Carpenter's songs and melodies, which usually get lost in a fog of gently strumming guitar and polite percussion on her studio albums. Carpenter delivers a powerful vocal performance here, emboldened by the fine production.
Songs from the Movie is a nice introduction to Carpenter's literacy for new listeners who have no taste for twang and no fortitude for folk.
