Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 3% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 77.3/100, a mean average of 76.9/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 77.5/100. The standard deviation for this album is 13.2.

Intriguing narratives are matched by the music, whose dramatic nature is accentuated by strings and eerie backing vocals. Great songwriting and vocal performance as well from Nick Cave. Mostly very enjoyable, though I didn't care for some of the rockabilly moments, e.g. "I Had a Dream, Joe". Overall I find the album very cinematic, and quite a unique achievement (at least for now, this being my first Nick Cave album).

This is definitely music that I DO NOT care of. Listened to it only because it is in the 1001 Albums book. Box ticked

We are in 1992 when "Henry's Dream" - Nick Cave's seventh album - is born. Two years after "The Good Son", on which the Australian singer seemed soothed and in love, "Henry's Dream" arrives as its exact opposite: violent, visceral, black and particularly Rock 'n' Roll. Nick Cave is for me one of the best artists of all time. Henry's Dream is one of the few Bad Seeds albums that divide so much. The band itself rejects it - clearly showing their disagreement with a production they do not take and even remix a part of it - while the fans love it. Remains a major disc in the discography of the group, marking by its titles and the atmosphere that emerges. Personally, this album is one of my favorite Bad Seeds. Obviously this is not their absolute masterpiece such as "The Boatman's Call", "Blues Slaughterhouse / The Lyre of Orpheus", "Dig, Lazarus, Dig !!!" or "The Good Son". But this album will remain forever in the history of music and in the heart of the Bad Seeds fan.

Henry's dream, was a return to the darker side of life after the meditative, the good son. Cave is obviously having a lot of fun telling these stories, and there are some fantastic songs here. Opener, papa won't leave you,Henry, is excellent, it has a kind of mexican/wild west sound to it, it reminds me of Sergio Leone's spaghetti westerns. Other highlights are, straight to you, my favourite track here, and one of the more lighter moments. Then there's, brother,my cup is empty, and, when I first came to town. Henry's dream, is another essential Nick Cave album. Brilliant.

Despite Cave and company's thoughts that this album's sound was too tampered with post-recording, I find it to be one of his most fun, rocking albums. "Straight to You" is arguably his best song ever.

Favorite tracks: "Straight to You", "Jack the Ripper", "Papa Won't Leave You, Henry"

And everyone joined in for a drunken sing-a-long at the biker bar.
