Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 71.4/100, a mean average of 70.5/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 71.3/100. The standard deviation for this album is 12.1.

Is it a weak album or is it just weak by the unusually high standards of The Roots?
Interesting concept and decent execution

Wasn't sure about this release after my first listen a while back. After a few plays, I've realized that this album is actually amazing. It's dark tones coupled with a few contrasting high notes is perfect.
Favorite tracks: Never, When The People Cheer, Understand, The Dark (Trinity).

I really like the Roots, but this album has very little impact on me.
I think it's official, I have a hip-hop bias/inclination. Very straight-forward, vintage hip-hop. In a genre that, thanks to artists like Kanye, now focuses on heavily produced samples, it's nice to see bands like The Roots still sticking to their "roots". Classic and timeless in sound, not over complicated or trying too hard, honest and organic. A Roots album will always be something I welcome and this album is no exception.
