Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 8% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 75.1/100, a mean average of 74.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 75.2/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.9.

A very talented group. Journal is Better than Holy Bible mainly because the vocals are understandable and the music is more accessible. I much prefer Everything Must Go to this however. Now I feel compelled to listen to This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours :)
Returning to lyrics of Richey Edwards, the Manic Street Preachers make this record their strongest in a long time, only The Holy Bible and Gold Against The Soul beat it. (Edited)
I like how accessible this album is too! The songs are small and easy to listen too. Definitely worth the days I counted down for the release date!
A good album digging up old lyrics from Richey, more raw and similar to The Holy Bible in it's style

It's been 13 years and I still regularly listen to this record. It's got that lyrical, emotional depth and interesting subject matter but it's also sometimes funny and has some of James' best riffs. And then there's the string arrangement on This Joke Sport Severed! I just never seem to tire of this album
