Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 66.5/100, a mean average of 64.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 64.2/100. The standard deviation for this album is 20.8.

Don't know about the rest of album, but About Town is a flippin' masterpiece. Love it!

This is the album which turns The Kooks' music on its head. It's an overproduced indie-pop album, filled with electronic sounds, mostly lifeless choruses and endlessly looping melodies. It marks the first major disappointment the band has released, topped only by their next effort. The energetic songs lack the energy the band is known for (with Around The Town being the possible exception), while the ballads feel cold and lifeless (looking at you See Me Now). The electro-pop, hip-hop, gospel and soul influences don't really help to improve the quality of the album. A lack of truly memorable singles is also a problem.
Even though there are songs closer to the band's earlier material, such as Forgive & Forget and It Was London, they lack the infectious songwriting qualities of their earliest singles. The noisy mess that dominated many songs on their debut is back here and works just as badly. Down might very well be the worst song they've ever recorded. Are We Electric is quirky and eclectic in all the wrong ways, and the same goes for Sunrise. Album closer Sweet Emotion is at least pretty good.
