Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 69.7/100, a mean average of 69.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 69.4/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.6.

After the stellar Nine Types Of Light I was expecting more of the same but wow this was a massive disappointment. The first half is a slodge to get through. Seeds is TV On The Radio's first album after the death of their bassist in 2011 and one can tell that it sounds like a band that still hasn't healed.
Definitely their worst major release. But there are enough high points to make this a very enjoyable record.
Trouble, Happy Idiot, Lazerray and Careful You are fantastic
People drag this because it isn't a typical TVOTR record. There's some fantastic pop tracks here and it maintains that same spirit at heart. A really unique sound and something that deserves more appreciation than it will ever get.
Doesn't reach far enough for mine. The songs are less interesting and it comes across as being a bit formulaic. While Nine Types of Light is better than most realize this album is actually worse than most realize. But it is TVotR, and they are a quality outfit, so the album is not trash by any means.
'Seeds' was such a disappointing album to me when it first came out. Having discovered the outstanding albums from TVotR's discography: 'Return to Cookie Mountain' and 'Dear Science', I was eagerly anticipating the release of new material. But 'Seeds' is just a bad album in comparison. The new crisp production styles don't fit a band like TVotR, who are deeply rooted in the post-punk tradition of bands like Joy Division and Television. What's worse, the songs are just boring, the fact that 'Happy Idiot' and 'Careful You', which would be average songs on earlier TVotR records, are the best songs on the album speaks volumes about the album's quality, or lack thereof.
I had high hopes for this one... This band just peaked with Dear Science.
TV On The Radio are a world class rock band, and their most recent record is a tremendously rewarding listen.
If you're expecting another Return to Cookie Mountain (or even a Dear Science), you'll be disappointed with this. But this album is fantastic in its own right - much more immediate and with tons of hooks. I'd almost call this alternative R&B over indie rock. Not to say it's completely hook-driven though; there's still plenty of experimentation and new things to find on repeated listens.
Loving it. The strongest TVotR release for me. I love the emotion conveyed by some songs like Ride and Careful You, and it has plenty of great songs and only one or two songs I can think of as filler. I really dig the new direction they took, this is one of the best albums of 2014
Best songs: Ride, Happy Idiot, Careful You, Could You, Lazerray, Winter, Test Pilot
My least favorite TV on the Radio album but this is still really good. Happy Idiot is really strong as well.
