Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 12% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 74.5/100, a mean average of 76.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 76.0/100. The standard deviation for this album is 13.4.

I don't know why the hell Spotify recommended this to me, but I gave it a whirl. This is a one- man record about 2076, the tricentennial, America's 300th year; except now it's not "Old America" but "New America"; men can now eat sand; "Space Love" gave people a second chance. I think it's supposed to be a sci-fi rock opera?

Tricentennial 2076 begins with Vyto B hammering out huge and tumbling piano lines, yelping about the future, introducing you to the Electronic Enforcers, and the Funky Pump, and the Miracle Device, and Martian Plan. This is a record written by an alien, performed by said alien in a small, reverb-heavy apartment (in Chicago perhaps? or perhaps on his UFO?), 100 centuries ago, or perhaps 100 centuries from now, locked into a time capsule and now easily found via your preferred music streaming service.

I think that's good enough to give it a place on my all-time chart.
