Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 3% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 77.8/100, a mean average of 78.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 78.6/100. The standard deviation for this album is 12.5.

In addition to the highlights in all the other commenters comments, this soundtrack features two Paul Westerberg solo offerings. Well worth a listen.

I changed my mind. This is a great album so I put it on my charts. Most of these songs aren't available anywhere else or appeared here first before being on other albums. This album helped serve as an introduction to the grunge scene for a whole lot of people. Some of us bought it knowing one or two of the bands and became fans of the others through this album.

What Pearljammer said... Great compilation, but still a compilation.

I agree with pearljammer. Great sampling of Seattle sound when most of it was still new and exciting. However, it's a compilation (half of these songs can be found elsewhere) so I don't consider it for a best album chart.

This was a great microcosm of Seattle's grunge scene. That being said, it's a compilation album so I don't think it can really be considered for a greatest albums chart. Still good though.

I cannot believe I am the first to add this album. I hope that I have introduced this great album to people that otherwise wouldn't have heard it. It doesn't have all original material, but what it has is amazing: Would by Alice in Chains, Drown by the Smashing Pumpkins, State of Love and Trust & Breath by Pearl Jam, Nearly Lost You by the Screaming Trees, Chloe Dancer/Crown of Thorns by Mother Love Bone, etc. Great stuff from the Seattle grunge scene as well as a few gems from non-Seattlites.
