Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 3% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 77.6/100, a mean average of 77.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 78.2/100. The standard deviation for this album is 11.5.

I think this album receives a lot of undeserving praise. To a newcomer this album is very much Gojira. It has Joe's signature vocal style and damn catchy riffs, combined with the production value they discovered with The Way Of All Flesh. It is fairly consistent and somewhat refreshing. However, while the sound screams Gojira, this album is lacking what actually makes Gojira one of the best prog death metal bands out there. Think of the bridges in Orobourous and Flying Whales; these songs are monstrously heavy and emotional and are some of the band's best. The feeling they give can't be compared to any other band, it is distinctly their own, and yet they forgot to put it into this album. It really struggles to hold my attention because of this, as if there's very little to look forward to beyond the tasty grooves. No monstrous throwdowns, no meticulously crafted progressive instrumental passages. Overall, good effort, but disappointing.
Standout tracks: Silvera, The Cell.
A year and a half later, I still think this is a masterpiece in its own right. One of their three genius albums (along with L'enfant Sauvage and From Mars To Sirius), and currently probably my favourite Gojira stuff.
I really like a bunch of the songs on this record. I like the vibe of it even if it does get a tad repetitive by the end (which is why Liberation is extra nice). I love the style of the vocals, although I feel the production gives it the feel of being a bit buried.
Overall one of the more consistent and interesting bands in metal today. I look forward to hearing this again.
