Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some artists can have several thousand ratings)

This artist is rated in the top 2% of all artists on BestEverAlbums.com. This artist has a Bayesian average rating of 81.0/100, a mean average of 80.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 81.6/100. The standard deviation for this artist is 16.1.

Supertramp made some of the best music of the 1970s. Their debut eponymous album gave us a glimpse of what was to come, but their 3rd album 'Crime of the Century' gave it us with both barrels. Cleverly constructed songs, wonderful arrangements and fantastic production. Each member of the quintet was an integral part of their sound, from Siebenberg's solid and intricate drumming, Thomson's bass grooves and Helliwell's beautiful reed work, to the bluesy Davies' piano/organ, vocals and harmonica and Hodgson's more ethereal and pop oriented vocals, keyboards and guitar. The sum was more than the parts and once they stopped singing off the same hymn sheet, the magic was lost.

One of the most notable bands of the 70's in particular. Hardly any other band has been able to stage the fusion of catchy and sophisticated music, of pop and progressive rock, so skilfully and with such ease.

Roger Hodgson and Rick Davies: two different way to approach to music, but the result is one of the most amazing bands of the 70s/80s. Perfect in both their prog and pop stuff. So glad that they existed.

Remarkable band. That four album run in the '70s was monstrous.

If I had to say what is the most underrated band on BEA, I’ll say Supertramp. IMO its a classic band, one the best.

Crime of the Century and Even in the Quietest Moments are masterpieces of prog rock. Breakfast in America is unique record with incredible songs in it. Crisis? What Crisis ? is a good album completing their awesome string of 4 great records.

Supertramp is an original band. No 70s bands sounds like them. They have complicated piano parts, saxophone and also two lead singers, just like The Beatles, who both have recognizable voice and incredible range.

It’s so sad and happy at the same time: it’s full of emotions, it’s Supertramp.

One of my favourite bands. Almost everyone I know loves them, but I never hear anyone talk about them online, for some reason.

No band sounds like this one. I really have a soft spot on it.
It's a pity that their best known singles, ie Logical Song, Dreamer, It's raining again, aren't their best songs.
In my opinion, not only Crime of the Century is top class. Crisis what crisis? may not be as cohesive but has some of their best compositions, and their other two albums in that 74-79 period, their debut and some odd songs (ie Rosie had everything planned, Don't leave me now) are also very good.

Four great albums within five years (74-79) is more than most can claim.
