Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some artists can have several thousand ratings)
This artist is rated in the top 1% of all artists on BestEverAlbums.com. This artist has a Bayesian average rating of 84.8/100, a mean average of 83.7/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 85.3/100. The standard deviation for this artist is 16.1.

Atmospheric music that's somewhat interesting. Points for influence.
If the earth was to spew out music, it would sound like 'Ágætis byrjun', if you were to decipher the wistful thoughts about childhood it would sound like 'Takk...'.
If a higher being were to make a band to make the most beautiful music possible, they would resemble Sigur Rós.
I want to cry almost every time i hear a song by them. They are the professionals at making minimalist but absolutely gorgeous soundscapes.

Although they have some shorter songs with catchy hooks (e.g. Hoppipolla), Sigur Ros is more for the person who has the patience for songs that build and take their time in establishing atmosphere. For the person who appreciates the slow burn, Sigur Ros packs some of the most emotional punches in their music - be it haunting, heart breaking or happy.
Have seen this band so well loved on this site for so long and finally really sat and listened. I might become another disciple.
Sigur Ros is one of those bands that just represents so much about life its hard to put into words. Sigur Ros is that band you listen to when youre the happiest as well when youre the saddest and angriest. Every album has something new and its hard to get bored.
Sigur Ros made the music that sounded when the starts were created. For me, is the best band ever created, and Ágætis Byrjun my favourite album.
This has to be elves' music if I must describe it through words. I anticipate their coming back with another record that will hopefully witness the return of the sound which prevailed on their earlier records. So far they've created enough mesmerizing music for me to indulge in, but it is exactly due to them being too good that I want more from Sigur Ros.
