Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some artists can have several thousand ratings)
This artist is rated in the top 17% of all artists on BestEverAlbums.com. This artist has a Bayesian average rating of 76.9/100, a mean average of 75.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 77.1/100. The standard deviation for this artist is 18.5.

Jagged Little Pill remains one of my all time favourite albums - Alanis' lyrics, imagery, vocals, sense of occasion are spot on - outrageously so, on this album.
One of my best ladies in the vocal
Alanis has sold too many albums to have cred in alternative circles and is too experimental and idiosyncratic for top40 circles, and as a result she suffers from being tragically underrated or dismissed in both camps. In reality though she has lots to offer both. When you can reconcile that she has managed to sell 60 millions albums when they are as subversive and uncompromising as Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie, then it becomes clear why a google search of 'Queen of Alt-rock' brings up her name.
Her best album is definitely Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie. It can be hard to digest in one listen because of the length and density of the songs, but that is ultimately its strength, because there are so many layers and so much depth that you are still unpacking new pearls years later.
Jagged Little Pill and Flavors of Entanglement are also brilliant, and Under Rug Swept is a solid album as well.
I love almost all her albums - one of my favourite female artists
Amazing voice and sexy
I love the angry and yet vulnerable quality to her lyrics. Under Rug Swept is a good album but nowhere as good as Jagged.. or my favourite album of hers S.F.I.Junkie. I also love her voice.
She started as a tweeny pop star ("Never too hot, never too cold, you're making yourself too hot to hold. Never too young, never too old, you gotta go for gold!") and then apparently got screwed over (literally) by Felix Potvin (Maple Leafs goalie) or Dave Coulier, or some record executive. She then released a fury of "Fuck me? No fuck you!" female angst. It was angry, it was blunt, and it was a pop masterpiece. Excellent melodies, biting hooks, and seething lyrics. It still stands up. Too bad afterwards she came to terms with her anger, mellowed out and married then divorced Ryan Reynolds. She lost her edge. For one album, she was brilliant.
I prefer her earlier 'Alanis' album from '91
Great Angry Chick Music! She and Sheryl Crow are probably the best female solo artists.
After all these years, JAGGED LITTLE PILL still holds up. (Unfortunately, I can't forget that it was Uncle Joey that she "...went down on in a theater..." lol)
