Best Live Performances
by KinkyAfro
These are bands/artists I've watched live which I regard as the best live performances I've seen. Some of these I went to not expecting much, others with high expectations, and there are other bands that I love that should be on here but they just didn't do it for me live.
Where possible I've put them under the album in which the tour was supporting, and the standout track from the gig in the cases that I can remember it.
Maybe a pointless chart to everyone other than me but I'd recommend these artists to anyone who loves live music, saying that, some of these its just not possible to watch them live any more, but they were great gigs!

Finally watched them live on the In Rainbows tour at Old Trafford and they were unreal, just blew every other band I have ever seen live out of the water. Was lucky (from my point of view) that the setlist was the whole of In Rainbows, and the rest was mainly from OK Computer and The Bends, with only a couple off each of their other albums.

The band I've watched live more than any other. The gigs have ranged from magnificent to shocking. The first time I saw them was when they toured this album back in 1995 at the manchester apollo and that gig will stay with me forever. One of the best performances ever. The place was packed and it was so hot and sweaty, when I left I was dripping wet! Watched them on every tour since (except the telling stories tour as I was living in spain) up until the You Cross my Path tour, which I vowed would be my last as they were that bad I left halfway through. They played Delamere forest the following year though and I'm gutted I didn't go as the setlist was amazing!

Probably the gig I was looking forward to the most in the run up to it, love The Black Keys and they didn't disappoint. It was also in my favourite venue, the Manchester Apollo. They did half the set with a bassist and keyboard player, but they were at their best when it was just the two of them.

Saw these at the Manchester academy and I'd recommend people to watch this band live, even if you are not a fan. So much energy and they just powered through the setlist.

Only got tickets to this gig at Heaton Park because all my mates were going and thought it was a good excuse to have an all dayer and get hammered. Saw them back in 1995 and they were crap so wasn't too bothered about going. They were brilliant though, when I saw them last time Reni had already quit so this was the first time I'd seen them with their original line up.

I've seen R.E.M. a few times but the one that stands out is the first one on the Monster tour at Huddersfield Mcalpine stadium in 95. This was when they were at their peak, the first tour since Automatic for the People and Out of Time so they had a whole lot of songs they hadn't yet played live. Didn't think this gig was going to happen as Bill Berry had his brain aneurysm earlier in the tour but was back in time for it to go ahead.

Even though I've seen Doves in their own right, the time a saw them support Oasis at City of Manchester stadium stands out as them at their best. The completely stole Oasis' thunder and were the highlight of the gig. I wasn't a fan at that point but that performance won me over.

I went to watch Noel with the High Flying Birds, but saw him before that doing a lone acoustic set of Oasis songs which was brilliant. It was made even better when Paul Weller joined him on stage for a few songs.

The next best thing to seeing Led Zeppelin. It was in support of his brilliant Mighty Rearranger album and along with them songs, the set was quite Led Zep heavy. My only gig at Wolverhampton Civic Hall, what a great venue. My mate who I went to this gig with later got a ticket for the O2 Led Zep show but it cost him £800 for the ticket on ebay! He has since said that every gig he has been to since has been a let down as nothing could ever compare to it.

Never fancied going watching Clapton and never even considered watching Steve Winwood but when I heard about this tour, I had to go as I love the Blind Faith album. Claptons playing was as good as I knew it would be and they went through the Blind Faith album, selected songs from their solo discography and some great covers. Probably the flatest gig I've ever been to in terms of atmosphere, mainly due to the average age of the audience and it was all seated, but I didn't help as I just sat there mesmerised by Claptons playing. The duel guitars of Had To Cry Today nearly had me nursing a semi! The first think I think of though when I remember this gig is how long it took to get home, over 4 hours to do the 90 miles from Birmingham back to Manchester because the motorway was closed... In 2 seperate places!
