Aftermath is a very solid album - I think it is not as highly rated in relation to it's peer albums of that year/decade is because it is a bit more of a derivative work. The Stones hadn't really gone off and become the Stones just yet - found that sound that was just theirs. Other artists were out doing thing a bit more original and inventive and blazing new trails and the Stones were more followers at this stage. ... at least that is my take on it.
