What can I say about this album that hasn't been said before? I mean, honestly, how am I supposed to articulate into words my feelings about an album that practically has no words? Muted vocals, distorted guitars, ethereal drum loops. Loveless creates an atmosphere that is like no other. When I put on Loveless I'm not just listening to music. I'm in a whole different world. And it's still unfathomable to me that I can feel such a multitude of emotions through some cheap plastic headphones. There's just nothing else out there like this. And you know what, there doesn't really need to be. Loveless is a one-off of alternative music. Like getting your first paycheck or losing your virginity. It's a one time thing that never needs to be replicated. I've listened to this album multiple times every week since I first heard it back in my sophomore year of high school. And every year I grew to love it more and more. I swear, at my funeral, when they open my casket, I'll have a blunt in my mouth, and the swirling guitars of Loveless on an endless loop in my ears.

P.S. I can seriously talk about this album for hours, but I'll end with this: Soon has got to be the fucking greatest song of all time.

Growing up in the slums of Atlanta, Georgia, I quickly became disenchanted with the 'hip hop-centric, internet generation' I was a part of. At school, I became somewhat of a loner, secluding myself from the other students, and vigorously searching for new music to listen to and new books to read. It was there that I realized how easily money can cloud people's judgement. Millionaires like Steve Jobs and Bill Gates were geniuses because they spent most of their youth reading and educating themselves. I had done the same, but I was poor, therefore I was a nerd... Whatever. It was listening to Illmatic that soon made me embrace the terms 'nerd' or 'loser.' Here was a guy, just like me, who liked to party, and smoke weed, and fuck around, and have a good time, but he didn't have to be a fucking idiot about it. He was still educated. As a kid, I identified with this album so hard. I honestly don't know where I would be without it. When High School came around, and thoughts of dropping out to pursue my dreams started floating around in my head, I would put this album on and it would set me straight. Yeah, I can sit here and talk about how it's the most important hip hop album ever made, and how it changed the landscape of hip hop forever, but I'm not gonna do that. You already know all of that. This album changed ME. And I feel that that is exponentially more important. [First added to this chart: 08/06/2013]

There's guys like Nirvana who took noise rock and made it cool. Then there's guys like Sonic Youth who took noise rock and made it art. And as much as I idolize the tortured genius that Kurt Cobain, I would have to say that I definitely prefer the latter. Laced with feedback and distortion, Daydream Nation is vicious attack on your ears. And that's the beauty of it. Sonic Youth were a bunch of psycho-flannel wearing outcasts, waaay before grunge came and it made it mainstream. From top to bottom I don't think there's an album that can match the raw energy of Daydream Nation. And furthermore, I seriously think it's impossible to listen to this all the way through and not find yourself involuntarily banging your head. It's time like this that I wish I had long hair... Close your eyes and picture a short haired kid. Baggy pants. Jordon shoes. Southpole shirt. The kind of kid who only listens to rap music and calls Pink Floyd 'gay' because they have pink in there name. Yeah, hat image I just had you conjure up? That was me as a twelve year old. I was a little shit. I knew I was a little shit. My friends knew I was a little shit. My parents knew I was a little shit. But how do you calm down a little shit? You buy him a record player. Then you shower him with Beatles records until he begins to believe in the hippie sentiments that made them so magical in the first place. Cue Revolver. I first heard this during the summer of 7th grade and my perception of music was changed forever. I was the kind of guy who still idolized Lil Wayne at that point! Never had I heard such undistinguishable sounds. Such brilliant lyrics. Such brilliant melody. It was at that moment that I became a so called 'music lover,' spending most of my days searching for, and listening to various bands. It's crazy to think that this album is 48 years old because if it was realized today it would still be a fucking landmark. The kind of album that's a mind altering experience with or without the use of drugs. Though I'd be lying to you if I said that I didn't recommend the latter. [First added to this chart: 08/06/2013]

Do I even have to get into how good this album is? It's the number one album on this site, so I know you all have heard it. And if you haven't, I highly recommend it. I also recommend this drink called water, this show called Breaking Bad, and this food called pizza. You feel me? [First added to this chart: 08/06/2013]

An artist releases a string of critically acclaimed, game changing albums, and the success immediately goes to his head. No, that's not the sad story of Kanye West. That's just music in general. How many artists have we seen become unbelievably pretentious once they realize how brilliant they are? ( [First added to this chart: 12/17/2013]

Maaaaaaan do I love the album. I can't even express my love through words. An ideal day for me is getting stoned, and then playing this album on full while laying down and looking at the stars. "Machine Gun" is easily my favorite song of all time. That is seriously one of the most beautiful melodies ever recorded [First added to this chart: 08/06/2013]

I'm from Atlanta so you know I've been bumpin Outkast since birth. I call them the Beatles of Rap beacause just like the Beatles they just dropped masterpieces one after the other. But out of that large library of hip-hop classics this is the best of them. "Rosa Parks" is one of the smoothest rap songs ever crafted. [First added to this chart: 08/06/2013]

Believe the hype! I used to hate how hard people would ride Arcade Fires dick. But listening to this album you can see why. The group seriously are geniuses. Just thinking about that "Rebellion" song, ahh the feels. [First added to this chart: 08/06/2013]

brilliant chart, great variety to it. as soon as I saw Loveless and Illmatic side-by-side up the top i was won over. Hip-Hop deserves it's spot along-side the rock classics.

Really good chart; loads of albums I love and a good emphasis on hip-hop. If you haven't heard it, I would recommend you listen to Blonder Tongue Audio Baton by Swirlies. Its got that You Made Me Realise vibe to it, but is much more hyper.
