Top 100 Greatest Music Albums by hedera

Under construction... some albums are definitely missing from this list while others shouldn't be on it, though I obviously like them. Specially the lower half of the list will be somewhat rearranged..

Through Silver In Blood is a challenging and dark album, for sure, but if you can endure to listen to it again and again I think lots of people would understand the magnitude of this band and this album. Never in my life have I physically felt music like this, like it's in a weird way is in touch with another primordial dimension of humanity. Emotionally drenching, profound and self certain in its devastating performance. An organic monolith of anxiety, very depressing but also cathartic. [First added to this chart: 07/04/2014]

This album, like Neurosis, contains that rare music that actually touches both the flesh and the mind. I like jazz, though I don't necessarily listen to it all the time, and the same goes with this album, but everytime I hear it I go "holy shit"! It's like the soundtrack to some deeper understanding of time and the inner movements of reality. [First added to this chart: 07/04/2014]

Time Of Grace breaks new ground for Neurosis, it's something completely different in it's approach to a style of dark folk music, yet still as profound and brutal as before, but not as great as a whole. [First added to this chart: 07/04/2014]

What can you say about Dylan? For me Blonde On Blonde is the definite expression of him as a songwriter. Unearthly most of the time and much of it's greatness lies in his voice, a voice he really wouldn't come close to until Desire. Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands. The sincerity mixed with the mystery. OK Computer is for sure the best album of early Radiohead, but for me, personally, this is an important record, nevermind some weaker tracks. There are such emotional highlights on here. [First added to this chart: 07/04/2014]

What a beautiful and pretty much flawless album that I've lived with for twenty some years. It always gives me goosebumps. Singer-songwriting don't come much better than this. [First added to this chart: 07/04/2014]

Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 87.2/100, a mean average of 87.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 87.7/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 7.8.

Not a bad list by any means, quite varied and focused substantially upon genres of great cultural significance but which are not often seen here. The metal choices are especially notable in this respect, although I am not a metal fan.

The top 4 picks were very promising but the rest was kind of safer than I expected. Still solid, though.

A good chart. I like your notes. 28 albums in common but we have very different charts. Haven't heard of Neurosis. Must look them up.

Desire is an underrated Dylan record... Never listened to Neurosis, what kind of music are they? Anyway a chart having Tool and jazz in the top 10 can't be below 90 rating :)

@hahol Thanks! I think there is going to be some changes in the lower half of the list, haven't really made the best ranking and some albums may drop out..
