Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some artists can have several thousand ratings)
This artist is rated in the top 1% of all artists on BestEverAlbums.com. This artist has a Bayesian average rating of 86.8/100, a mean average of 87.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 88.0/100. The standard deviation for this artist is 13.1.

Charles Mingus was one of the most important jazz musicians of all time. One of those whose own names mean jazz on its own, like the kinds of Davis, Taylor or Sanders. He was one of the very few double-bass players who could take their instrument out of the rhythm section and smash it right on the listener's face, with a sound so hard and fierce that it pumps in your chest, but still with high technical precision. Fierce like him, a really bad tempered person. But beyond this, he was a great, great, great composer, the only one who could probably match the level of Duke Ellington. His mastery in orchestrating different musical voices in a whole so united and complete was even beyond compares. Just listen to "the sinner lady" for an example, but his all discography is worth listen. A master.
Totally on my wish list!
don't know much about Jazz but this one is just great to listen to.
RESPECT!!!
