Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some artists can have several thousand ratings)
This artist is rated in the top 1% of all artists on BestEverAlbums.com. This artist has a Bayesian average rating of 85.9/100, a mean average of 84.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 86.5/100. The standard deviation for this artist is 17.5.

Not my cup of tea.
IMO, his voice is awful, it sounds like he smoked the entire Marlboro factory and downed it with 75 litres of whiskey. His cadence is laughable, it's all over the place in this cringey, folsky, fake blues sort of way.
Just my opinion.
I'm hearing a whole lot along the lines of, "I don't get it" in here. What, are you listening to him in your car? With headphones? Get a good sound system and a bottle of something strong. Give each album a couple listens each with the lyrics out.
He's absolutely got to be the single most underrated artist on here.
Tom Waits is a truly fantastic artist. Regardless of the decade or the genre, Waits produces music of a consistently great quality, while making each and every song unique but instantly recognisable as one of his. Swordfishtrombones and Rain Dogs are two of the best albums of the 80s, and I'm yet to hear a Tom Waits album that I dislike.
I don't know if there's a single other artist with the same emotional range as Tom Waits. He can send me from laughter to tears to feeling like the coolest person in the world to feeling like I need to take a shower within the span of a couple songs.
BETTER THAN BOWIE

One of the greatest voices ever.
Paladasiac, if that's a ruined voice, I don't want to hear an intact one.
Superb, a one off . . . Nothing else needs to be said
