Top 100 Greatest Music Albums
by Tobias273

My favorite Albums. I'm aware that there's alot of Genesis and Pink Floyd in here and in general alot of progressive rock.

Edit: I'm trying to edit this over the next days or so hopefully. Maybe make it will become a tiny bit more diverse, I'll try.

Throughout the years this Genesis album has been a true treasure trove for me. It just keeps on giving. Wheter it's letting oneself fall into the hypnotic rythm of 'In The Cage', getting immersed in the sonic soundscape of the evil jam, rocking along with 'Fly on a Windshiled' or 'Back in NYC' or getting carried away by affectionate ballads like 'Anyway' or 'It'. Every song on this album is something special and has helped draw me back to this album again and again. [First added to this chart: 09/16/2014]

It's the freaking Dark Side Of The Moon. I don't really feel like I need to comment this. It's progression is only comparable to some other Floyd albums. All songs smoothly fade into each other and time flies by. The album feel less than half as long as it really is because it consumes you. [First added to this chart: 09/16/2014]

I just love the Jazzy groove on this that slowly delves into the depth of psychedelia. Is it just me or is 'One of these Days' like going to the beach on a very hot day? [First added to this chart: 09/16/2014]

So weirdly contemporary and completely in the now. I found this irresistible right from the first listen when the kicks kick in. It took me years to get a grasp on the individual songs and I still haven't really, I only ever saw the album as one thing to listen from start to finish and time just floats by. However 15 Step in particular is the one I've become more aware of throughout the years, it's such an endlessly enjoyable song ("fifteen steps and then a shield drops" - what does that even mean? - "yeah" - super energizing). A gigantic leap forward for Genesis at the time this album contains some of their wildest and most unhinged long compositions laced with soem of their sweetest ballads. Just perfect. [First added to this chart: 09/16/2014]

I find this to be the most delighful mix of Eno. The album transitions from rhytmic rock songs to calm atmospheric "ambient songs", much like Eno's career at the time. Also huge heads up for sampling Kurt Schwitters! [First added to this chart: 09/16/2014]

Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart is rated in the top 18% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 87.2/100, a mean average of 87.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 87.5/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 7.3.

Love seeing Future Days so high. There's nothing wrong with being such a prog rock fan! I'm impressed by your knowledge of the genre and I'll be coming here for recommendations next time I feel like listening to that kind of music.
