This album is probably a tie with Washing Machine but I Had to select one. My favourite type of Sonic Youth is the more loose songwriting with really brittle guitar as demonstrated in EVOL. Favourite track: Maryln Moore [First added to this chart: 07/06/2010]

Deerhoof are my favourite band. People are often put off by Satomi's unnecessarily high vocals, but they fail to realise they're supposed to be self-deprecating. Similar to why I love The Red Krayola, there is humour to experimentation which avoids it being some highbrow wankfest. Regardless, The Runners Four is one of their more accesible "pop" albums. Its hard to transcribe the appeal. Its cute without being twee or cringeworthy. Its genuinely odd without being contrived or pretentious. Greg Saunier said they set out create "music that is more than just good music" and they've totally suceeded.Favourtie song:Running Thouhgts [First added to this chart: 07/06/2010]

This album is creepy and intense. Way unexpected if you were only familiar with Chelsea Girl and The Velvet Underground and Nico. Julius Caesar (Memento Hodie) is one of the most beautiful songs I've heard. [First added to this chart: 10/11/2011]

Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart is rated in the top 7% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 88.3/100, a mean average of 88.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 88.7/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 12.7.

This is such a awesome chart, youve given me some things to listen to, I love your little comments "I used to like Pavement, then I stopped liking them, now I like them again", although I found it weird how you said your equal favourite SY albums are EVOL and Washing Machine, then EVOL is #2 and Washing Machine is #97, anyway great chart

Wow I remember hearing Afrirampo a while back but then my stupid brain forgot about them. Thank you so much for reminding me! This chart rules, I'll be taking some rec's and a long overdue re-evaluation of that set fire to flames album from it for sure.
