Psychedelic & Mind Bending, 1-100
by
ObsoleteEntity
Quick FYI: My definition of psychedelic and/or trippy may differ from yours, but that's okay. I like it to have elements of weirdness and craziness, even if it is only experimental. I LOVE when the music falls apart (The Dead and Captain Beefheart did this a lot). I include, by the way, some meditation music because that can be some of the most psychedelic and mind bending music there can be. The Mind is a Terrible Thing to Waste. There are some stoner rock albums as well. Lastly, I am trying my best to add albums not from 1968, but that is proving to be a challenge. Challenge accepted!
Mood Classification for each album: Light/Happy, Moody, Transcendental/Deep, Heavy.

Don't let the playfulness turn you away from this album. There is some seriously great musicianship here.

The power and influence of this album can not be overstated. The Beatles started the studio effects, but Jimi perfected it!

My opinion: one of the greatest albums no one has ever heard of. If you've heard it already, then you are a connoisseur of tunage!

This album is crazy, creepy good. The mood is heavy and dark, though.

Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)
This chart is rated in the top 2% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 90.2/100, a mean average of 94.5/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 94.5/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 5.7.

Awesome, awesome chart! From the looks of it, this is the chart I must be checking everyday since lots of the albums I enjoy listening to lately appear on this chart. Thanks for sharing this.
Although I object to not adding Tago Mago, Fun House and some other albums on this list. I think they are pretty mind bending and trippy too. (Edited)
