Top 50 Greatest Music Albums
by BowieGhostsBub

Until about two years ago I had never listened to music for fun or on my own accord. Little did I know I was missing out on a fantastic part of life. Until about a three months ago, I was very limited to what I would listen to, so I've only listed albums I've fully listened to are not very many, but is growing rapidly! I'm adding and rearranging my chart constantly thanks to a new found openness (a lot of credit to this site for that) to different genres aside from rock and metal. I'm hoping by joining this site and exploring and reviewing albums I can expand my listening and find some great stuff that I know is out there. Feel free to comment or or give any feedback at all though! It's very welcome. More commentary and personalized reviews coming soon including favorite line of lyric from each album.

Note: I look at just my own taste and liking, not the album or artist's history or effect on music, society, etc. That is why this chart won't have a lot of variety and will be missing a lot of the "greatest" albums ever and some of "greatest" artists ever according to the masses.

"Whattya mean I'm not kind! Just not YOUR kind!"

UPDATE: Still exploring more music and adding and editing every day! It's slowly growing and is updated once a week or so. Please feel free to recommend or give suggestions or additions. Private Messages welcome as well.

I put this as my current all time favorite album simply based on the fact that it was the first album I fully listened to and sparked a legitimate passion for music (particularly metal) about two years ago. I had never listened to music on my own accord at all before I found this album and decided to play it. It was the beginning of a huge love of music for me, as well as the discovery of my current favorite artist. Favorite track: Sweating Bullets
Favorite Lyric: Hindsight is always 20/20, but looking back it's still a bit fuzzy.

Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 86.2/100, a mean average of 86.4/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 86.4/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 8.7.

This chart is real interesting. Some really great stuff, Groundhogs, Pentegram, etc. I gotta say I can't stand Rob Zombie, though.

Easily one of the most eclectic top threes I've seen in a while! I'd recommend some of the main influences on the metal/proggressive metal you seem to like. Sabbath was basically the beginning of true metal, but here are some suggestions:

Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin I (awesome, hard blues rock)
King Crimson - In the Court of the Crimson King (acclaimed prog rock)
Yes - either Fragile (my fav) or Close To The Edge (the generally more acclaimed one. Both are good technical prog)

Great chart, man. Glad you found this site and it has helped you discover more music, certainly I can say the same.

As for the chart, it's so cool and refreshing to see Dylan, Megadeth, and Kendrick featured so prominently. Very different artists, but ARTISTS nonetheless. This is a very honest chart. Keep it up, buddy!
