Best UK album of the year [First added to this chart: 07/29/2017]
Best USA album of the year
"What we want and what we need
Has been confused been confused"
One of the first albums I ever bought (my memory's timeline is a unreliable - I have about ten albums that might have been first) and the start of my R.E.M. becoming one of my favourite bands.
10/10 tracks: The Finest Worksong, The One I Love, and It's The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine) but I love every song! [First added to this chart: 07/29/2017]
"Dancing screaming itching squealing fevered
Feeling hot hot hot!!!"
I love albums that make me feel, and lose myself in the music, and this does that. Throughout sometimes the feelings are uncomfortable, screaming, itching, squealing, like in Torture, Snakepit (the jungle sounds in this are amazing - I am there in the jungle), and Shiver and Shake. Sometimes they are sweet and lovely, like in Catch (the most perfect pop song ever), Just Like Heaven, and Perfect Girl. This is a great combination of The Cure's best gothic rock, and near perfect pop, and a hint of whats to come in Disintegration, One More Time, and A Thousand Hours. The first album I ever bought as soon as it came out.
10/10 songs: Catch, How Beautiful You Are, The Kiss [First added to this chart: 07/29/2017]
"As sure as life means nothing
And all things end in nothing
And heaven I think
Is too close to hell"
I was obsessed with Psychocandy when it came out and I knew it had great melodic songs under that noise so when this album was released I loved that they had stripped away the feedback and proved to everyone they were great songwriters and not cashing in on a gimmick. Admittedly I was going through a bit of a gothic phase at the time (musically speaking) so the dark tone, deep vocals, and overall gloominess made this an album I adored for a long time.
10/10 songs: April Skies, & Happy When It Rains. I love Cherry Came Too and Darklands as well. [First added to this chart: 07/29/2017]
"Is my cock big enough
Is my brain small enough
For you to make me a star"
Yes it's a compilation but most of the songs aren't available elsewhere and what great songs most of them are. It provides a bit more variety than other Dead Kennedys albums, from short and fast (Short Songs), politically charged (California Uber Alles), atmospherically evil (The Prey), and even a couple of examples of spoken word - a path Jello Biafra would later go down and I had the privilege to see him perform live once - albeit to some minimal music (Night Of The Living Rednecks) and the stull timely and applicable to today, prescient Kinky Sex Makes The World Go Around. Not to mention my personal favourite of theirs Holiday In Camvodia. The 1-2-3 start of Police Truck, Too Drunk To Fuck, and California Uber Alles is a powerful start to the album. This was the DK album that I listened to the most and am more likely to put on today. [First added to this chart: 07/29/2017]
I owned The World Won't Listen so it gets priority here... [First added to this chart: 07/29/2017]
