"Two slices of some rather lovely ambient loveliness courtesy of Messrs Shields and Eno. The Weight Of History finds Eno intoning the title of the NEXT song - not unlike some kind of druid-like priest presiding over some sacred ceremony as the music drifts by. Only Once Away My Son however, is more like an instrumental version of the previous song, not breaking the ambient floaty spell already established. Nice." “CCCL Vol.1 was one of the surprise hits of 2018 so it’s even less of a surprise to find how good, this short but sweet, remix EP is. The immersive ambience with that sinister undertow lurking in the background is still in attendance as is the pulsating electronics that shimmer and shine. Bring on Volume 2.” October 2018 [First added to this chart: 09/19/2018]

"More experimental drone music from Mr Xiu Xiu i.e Jamie Stewart. Like most of his music, the overall effect is disconcerting and discomforting but intriguing. Diverting but if I'm honest it's when he turns his hand to a more conventional approach to song-smithery that he's most captivating." April 2018 [First added to this chart: 04/21/2018]

"Liverpool was the other city, besides Manchester, that was changed irrevocably by the onset of punk-rock. With future luminaries such as The Teardrop Explodes and Echo & The Bunnymen being the scene leaders, the sound was more eccentric, more psychedelic (The Beatles influence, perhaps, refusing to die despite their unfashionable status), even wistful - Liverpool's reputation as a port and dreams of far away places shaping the minds and hearts at work. Oh yeah, and ridiculous, elaborate names as well, stand up Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, Turquoise Swimming Pools and (deep breath) the Revolutionary Army of the Infant Jesus.
Regardless, Liverpool certainly gave Manchester a run for it's money during the Post-Punk era. Yeah, there's cool in the 'Pool." February 2018

“It’s summer 2018 so that means it’s time to celebrate indie-pop 1989. Cherry Red could run and run with this series as the tuneage here is yet again of so high quality especially for fans of softly sung pop music with loudly strummed guitars. Indie-pop, (Stone Roses reference here), Don’t Stop!” July 2018 [First added to this chart: 05/19/2018]

“It’s with some sadness reviewing this compilation, featuring and named after the Buzzcocks single - although not written by the recently deceased and much missed Pete Shelley. Like the title track, every song zips by with a certain brevity and joie de vivre that was missing from most guitar pop since the 60’s.
Another example of how punk rock managed to shake up the industry as well as people’s imaginations. Who says Noise Annoys?” December 2018
