This album paints a beautiful tapestry of what loss means to us as human beings. Pink Floyd masterfully weaves tragedy into beauty, paying homage to Syd Barrett and his battle with mental illness. Wish You Were Here finds a way to have consistent tone and thematic elements between songs without slipping into monotony.
Between the impeccable suites that are Shine On You Crazy Diamond (I-V & VI-IX) are, arguably, two of Pink Floyd's best tracks in Welcome to the Machine and Wish You Were Here. The former dazzles with its use of synths unparalleled at the time of its recording, and the latter with its relative simplicity but heart-throbbing message. This album is a true masterpiece.

Strongest Tracks:
- Shine On You Crazy Diamond (I-V & VI-IX)
- Wish You Were Here
- Welcome to the Machine

Weakest Tracks:
- Have A Cigar

Mainstream indie-rock, but the best of it. Death Cab doesn't try to reinvent the wheel by any means on this album but instead focus on creating a well-developed narrative-focused concept album. Invoking the shared struggles of how distance changes our relationships with others. The 7-minute titular track marks one of best songs of the 2000s, and truly evokes a visceral response on the first listen. Though the album certainly does not slog to or from its climax, its pompous start beautifully whittles its way down to a somber conclusion. This album is a must-listen for the loved and loveless alike.
