Top 10 Greatest Music Albums

Highly fluid and subject to change, this is largely reflective of my current music taste. That being said, I will likely always love the albums included on this chart at any given time!

No matter how sick of this album I get at certain points, I always come crawling back. I've recently decided that, at least from my subjective view, this album is the pinnacle of modern recorded music. The concept is perfectly realized and executed, the music is fantastic, and the production STILL sounds fresh almost FOURTY (!!!) years later. I hope that one day something comes out that can top this, but it seems increasingly likely with each passing year. [First added to this chart: 08/21/2020]

Everything that can be said about "The Dark Side of the Moon" can also be said about OK Computer. While cliche, calling this album "The Dark Side of the Moon of the nineties" is absolutely appropriate, in my opinion. The principle reason I have for putting this under TDSOTM is simply the fact that, to me, it seems to live in its shadow since it came after. [First added to this chart: 08/21/2020]

Probably my most listened to album. Endlessly catchy and punchy. The constantly chugging and strumming guitars and Julian Casablanca's excellent vocal performances are the keys here. Simply one of the most consistently excellent collection of songs every assembled and it only seems to get better with every listen. [First added to this chart: 08/21/2020]

A beautiful album from start to finish. What exactly is Mangum singing about, I'm not entirely sure? Does it provoke strong emotions in me regardless, absolutely! Lyrically and musically compelling and excellently arranged, I consider this album to be a landmark in modern indie music. It is also a very fun album to pick up a guitar and play along to!

Perhaps the most simultaneously listenable and poetic album I have ever come across. A concept album absolutely on par with "The Dark Side of the Moon" and "OK Computer" in its execution and musicality, "To Pimp a Butterfly" is a modern masterpiece and in my opinion, the absolute pinnacle of the hip hop genre. Did anyone expect a project of this caliber from Kendrick Lamar to follow up on his previous masterpiece, "Good Kid, m.A.A.d City"? Probably not, but man are we all glad that he was able to deliver. Manic, abrasive, and offensive. The Money Store was my introduction to Death Grips, and I remember being confused and (mistakenly) shrugging it off back at the time of my first listen. What a mistake. I challenge anyone to find an album that better represents the manic anhedonia of the internet age. Oh yeah, the music is also really catchy! MC Ride's delivery is fresh and has stood the test of time, and the music and production by Morin and Hill is punchy, in your face, and undeniably catchy. [First added to this chart: 08/21/2020]

While this album cannot may not top "OK Computer" and "Kid A" in terms of conceptual execution, the music of In Rainbows is, in my opinion, far more beautiful. Thom Yorke is at the peak of his vocal powers, and the band delivers some of its most gut-wrenchingly emotional performances. "Nude" and "Weird Fish / Arpeggios" (the albums clear standout tracks) are two of the most depressingly beautiful songs I have ever heard.

8. NEW
Another album that needs no introduction. Harrowing, musically compelling, conceptually fully realized, and completely indicative of the internet driven anhedonia that the world was rapidly accelerating towards at the time of its release, if "OK Computer" is "The Dark Side of the Moon of the nineties", then "Kid A" is certainly its "Wish You Were Here".

What is there to say that hasn't already been said a million times? I used to (foolishly) be a skeptic of The Beatles music, and this was the album that turned me onto their magic. Revolver is a thirty five minute journey through some of the most innovative, inventive, and influential pop music ever produced. An intoxicating blend of pop and psychedelia, Revolver is, in my opinion, The Beatles at the peak of their songwriting abilities. [First added to this chart: 08/21/2020]

As well executed as "The Dark Side of the Moon", but musically less interesting at points (I'm looking at you, "Have a Cigar"). "Shine on you Crazy Diamond" is a song for the ages.
