89.888* Outstanding album. Took a bit to warm up to at first as I had 3 other Zep albums before getting this so some of the slower tracks didn't gel well with me. Now I love it. Up there with the best of their other albums 08/26

89.333* This is more rock than the debut but you can also hear the start of the transitional sound that was to be Zep III. With Led Zep, it's hard to pick a favorite album. Seems to go in cycles. This was once my fave due to the overall rock nature of it. Now I prefer others but that doesn't lessen how great this album is. 05/26

79.444* It's amazing that this is deemed runt of the litter in regards to all studio albums which feature Jim. Yes, it does rank last in that category as all others are better, but this is still a great album with some great songs. It shows the caliber of how great a band the Doors were. 01/26

Heralded as one of the greatest Progressive Rock albums ever, it's been on my wants list for a while. Now I've finally found it. Hooray. It's definitely very Prog Rock and even though mainman Robert Fripp is lauded as one of the great virtuoso rock guitarists, he isn't the dominating factor on most tracks. Lot of flute. Lot of horns. Interesting as it incorporates Jazz, Classical and some Symphonic structures into it without diluting the predominant Rock element. Vocals and feel have a quintessential late 60's vibe reminding me in parts of The Moody Blues psychedelic era and the Rod Evans fronted MK 1 Deep Purple. Being Prog though means mostly lengthy songs. On a couple, some parts are good, some parts are too much noodling. The title tracks a killer, best on the album. 08/26

76.16* I find the interchangeable personnel that happened in the late 60's - early 70's that created short lived bands fascinating. Clapton, Steve Winwood & Ginger Baker being the prominent figures on this. Most tracks written by Steve Winwood except the last track which was written by Ginger Baker. It's 15 minutes long and has many sections of drum solos. How surprising. I also find it fascinating that in the early 80's when I was a record buying fanatic, this was always labelled in the Heavy Metal section. Metal it ain't. But it is decent 04/25
