My favorite albums of 2009. After finishing the list, I realized how weak of a year 2009 was overall. Making a top list turned out to be a lot easier than I expected.

One of the few debut albums that lives up to the almost unbearable hype that proceeded it. Blends many styles of music beautifully and effortlessly, led by Florence Welch's amazing vocals.

The Decemberists paint their brand of indie rock against an epic concept album canvas ala Rush or Pink Floyd. And the two sound like they were made for each other.

Generally I don't like folk/bluegrass style albums. But there's a sense of everything coming together and sounding exactly the way you want it to. The Avett's captured lightning in a bottle with this one.

The two greatest MC's in underground hip hop come together once again along with producer Aesop Rock. So what do you get when these 3 heavyweights of the genre get into a studio? The best hip hop album of the year.

The album that took the summer of 2009 by storm. Not often enough, but once in a while a really talented band will get the recognition it deserves. This album set the tone for indie rock to make its way into mainstream radio over the past few years.

No longer dealing with instant fame, Nirvana comparisons, or Anti-Bush rage, Pearl Jam is finally relaxed and recorded a casual and fun rock n' roll record.

Just like a self titled album implies, Wilco goes in a bit of a different direction by doing a straight forward rock n' roll album. Certainly not their best, but a middle of the road Wilco album is still top ten worthy.

It's certainly not the lead singer from the Strokes rehashing his band's previous work. A much more experimental album that works even when it shouldn't.
