Top 11 Greatest Music Albums

Music is my favorite thing in the whole world, so here I'm going to attempt to catalog every album I've ever listened to from least to greatest. These aren't the best albums, but they're my favorite.

This album.
About two years ago I was talking to a friend of mine named Surya about music. I was still pretty early on in my musical journey, and the topic of Arcade Fire came up. Of course, when the topic of Arcade Fire comes up, the topic of Funeral comes up as well, and when it did, Surya yelled out "FUNERAL!? STORY OF MY LIFE!"
We laughed at the exclamation for a while, but it never hit me so hard until I listened to this album; because this album IS the story of my life. Quadrophenia changed my life, but All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone IS my life.
Explosions in the Sky has made a lot of great music, but this is what both they and I consider to be their best. While yes, it is instrumental music, it really does tell a story. From the cover art, to the general atmosphere, to the epicness, to the emotion, to the bittersweet feeling of life, this album seems like it knows me, like it relates to me like I relate to it; and music is all about relation through sound, right? As far as I'm concerned, this is the best album ever made. There are very few albums I consider genius, and this is one of them. Everything is perfect in it, clashing climaxes and transcendent ambience. It's really just beautiful.

This is a pretty good album, but in all honesty the reason it's on this list is it's history and the last song. Lead guitarist Duane Allman died about halfway through this albums recording in a tragic motorcycle accident. This event is evident throughout the album's lyrics, but the focal point of it's effect is in the album's closer: Little Martha. I recommend Googling this songs story, but the interesting part is it's overall feel. This truly feels like Duane's last song, his goodbye, it's like he wrote his own eulogy. It's one of the most heartwarming songs I've ever heard, and may be my favorite. The general feeling I get from it is that Duane Allman was happy, he got it. This album is a story that it wasn't meant to be.

The story that goes along with this album is among the most beautiful I've ever heard. It's so unique, and has such interesting turns that are so tragic, pretty, and at some points morbid. It may be the best first-listen experience I've ever had, and I'd be lying if I said I didn't shed a manly tear or two listening to this. Oh yeah, and the music isn't half bad either.

This is the album of my generation. One would be hard pressed to find a person my age who was into indie music who couldn't relate to this album. From beginning to end, this album is an experience that seems like it's being narrated by yourself.

Before I listened to this album I was a different person, and honestly I didn't like myself then. This album showed me that music wasn't entertainment, it was life, and I can't imagine who I would be without it. It really is an overlooked classic that everyone should give a chance.

Remember that whole "this thing's genius" thing I said on #2, yeah, same thing here. This album, as well as every album above it, creates it's own world within it's confines, and this one does it the best. The recording is simple, almost dated, but to an effect. The overall hugeness and morbid lyrics of this make it one of the most unique albums ever made, and it well deserves the spot on this list.

EVERYONE seems to like this album for the wrong reasons. The simple cover art and hopeful music within is absolutely astounding, spreading a message of hope that few bands have ever made. Most people like it for the last song though and never listen to the rest.
