Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. This is pretty good! Lots of Rush which I couldn't agree more with, nice prog choices and also Dead Can Dance, some Britpop stuff and a bit of metal. Funfun

Lovin Stupid Dream so high up ^^. Finally someone agrees with me that it's the band's best work.
Have you listened to Clouds Taste Metallic, by The Flaming Lips? I warn you, it's completely different from Yoshimi and Soft Bulletin, but if you liked the guitar-oriented side of Mystics, you're not going to believe how much better Clouds is.
