"I love this album. I bought my first Monk album after reading a NME obituary in 1982. He sounded great and the album did not disappoint. There was a great picture that went with the article and it was framed and lived on my walls until it got badly damaged around 10 years ago."  Reply

"Great hard bop album. I love the speed and energy present in most tracks. Great solos from all 4 musicians throughout. St. Thomas stands out particularly with it great groove."  Reply

"Miles changed the face of music many times, the first of which was Birth of the Cool. This album is cool as can be, featuring unusual arrangements for jazz music at the time. The album didn't come out for many years after it was recorded, but the music from these recordings had already spread thr..."  [+]  Reply

"Johnny Cash stripped down to his bedrock. His career has just taken off, but he wasn't an icon. He had to deliver quality to stay on top. Did he ever. His tales of heartbreak, love, and paying his dues are highlighted by his sparse baritone voice and simple song arrangement. Country has never bee..."  [+]  Reply

"Although it doesn’t sound that extraordinary now, and in places I find it quite weak, how must this have sounded in 1957. Quite amazing I would think. Albums need to be put in context. For that alone this should probably be considered a classic."  Reply

"Maybe it's not essential. Personal bias because for a long time I only had this and Bitches Brew on CD and there wasn't online to check stuff out. So I played them both to death. And I loved both albums for different reasons. And I still do. Also I'm definitely NOT a Jazz expert."  Reply
