If you're reading this you're a def a music person and probably a fan of the band or less likely a hater of the band. I'm here as a fan to give an honest review.

Is this their worst album? Definitely.
Are the lyrics pedestrian? Yep
Did they change their sound? Eh kinda but this started on Reflector
Is this a bad album? No way.

People are getting all upset about how terrible this album is IN CONTEXT to their other 4 albums, which all happen to be anywhere from very good- masterpiece, in my humble opinion

Let's start at the bottom and work up
Chemistry is garbage. Probably the worst song they've ever recorded
Peter Pan is ehh at best
Everything now bookend tracks and infinite content tracks are merely filler
Good goddamn is decent
Signs of life and we don't deserve love are solid tracks
Everything now, creature comfort, electric blue and put your money on me ar all great (electric blue is my favorite on the album. Like a spiritual sequel to sprawl II for me. Like Blondie on acid lol)

Moral of the story is stop letting bandwagon mentality effect your objective opinion. Appreciate that a band you've always appreciated is allowed to produce something you may or may not love. Their worst album happens to be better than a lot of bands best albums.

*Sigh*. This album is complete trash. I like all of the songs from 'Electric Blue' to 'We Don't Deserve Love' (the latter being a song that I love, which may be surprising given the rating that I gave the album), but the rest of the album completely fails. 'Chemistry' gets a bad rap, it's bad, but it's hardly the worst on this album. 'Creature Comfort' has the most cringe-inducing lyrics of any Arcade Fire song, and takes the most immature and simplistic view of suicide and body-image issues that I've ever heard. 'Everything Now' sounds like Butler and co. listened to 'Hey Jude' once, liked the sing-along factor, but couldn't write a song that was anywhere near as interesting -- it's concert-bait at its finest. Worse yet, imagine writing a song about a bad pun, well, Arcade Fire wrote TWO SONGS ABOUT THE SAME TERRIBLE PUN in 'Infinite Content' and 'Infinite_content', it's not even f***ing clever. I have a lot of respect for Arcade Fire, 'Funeral' is arguably the best album of the 2000s. I don't know if they surrounded themselves with yes-men, but Arcade Fire have completely missed their appeal in trying (and failing) to turn themselves into the 21st century equivalent of New Order. The main strength of Funeral was the sincerity of its songs, the way that Régine belts the chorus to 'In the backseat' is utterly heart-wrenching, yet Arcade Fire come across as full of themselves when they brag, multiple times I might add, about a girl listening to said album not committing suicide. They're not sincere or relatable anymore -- they're downright exploitative.

After listening to it I must say it's not the album I expected it to be. I really loved the 4 singles released but the album as a whole isn't up there with Arcade Fire's best though at least for me, it surpasses Reflektor by a mile.

Everything Now is one hell of an opener song which establishes the themes and sound of what's to come. Signs of Life is a more dance-oriented song. While I like it, I can see it definitely being a song I will enjoy less over time. Creature Comfort incorporates more dark themes into the mix and it is one of the best in the album.

Then we get to Peter Pan, Chemistry and both Infinite Contents. These songs really drag the album down. I enjoyed them more the second time around but they're really not very strong compared to the rest of the album, and it's sad since they are practically 1/3 of the thing. Infinite Content could've been one hell of a song but it cuts off right when it starts getting interesting and we're treated to a very different second part.

The album starts to get much better starting with Electric Blue (one of my favorites of the album though I can see why many people won't like it) which is maybe the most disco song here but offers a very melancholic melody and lyrics.

Good God Damn is a slower song that I liked but I see it more as a grower. Finally we get to the amazing ending that Put Your Money On Me and We Don't Deserve Love offer. These could've easily been on Reflektor because of the electronic atmosphere that doesn't quite fall on disco but sound like they're getting into that territory. PYMOM is one of my favorite tracks of Everything Now and one that I'll be listening to a lot apart from the singles. Its catchy, its a song that evolves into something and has a great melody and vocals. We Don't Deserve Love on the other hand is simply gorgeous but it is a song that takes a while to get 'there'. It's no Rebellion (Lies), No Cars Go, Sprawl II or Afterlife, but it continues the tradition to make the penultimate track a very amazing treat. Once it gets to 'that' part it becomes one of the most beautiful songs the band has ever done.

Overall though, it doesn't feel as a very cohesive album. I like the theme and I love the way it uses the album format for making interesting things; in that way it reminds me of The Suburbs. But on the musical level, it just feels somehow unfinished. Mainly because of the middle section of the album. GREAT start and endings though.

I see why many people won't like it, and the thing is, if you really don't like disco or funk sounds, you'll not enjoy this. As I said before, this is going to be a very controversial release and it'll get very low scores, but I liked it and I'll keep defending it.

I am coming back to the album as i realise that some albums can settle in to themselves. Radiohead's last was 6/10 on first listen then 10/10 after 3 listens for example.

I rated this as 65% after 3 listens. After 10+ listens over a month I would now give it 5/10. This is a very, very average album by anybodies standards, by their standards it is shameful.

Oh man...
Arcade Fire made a disco EP and cooked it into an album. For the first time in the band's career, I'd actually say the lyrics are horrendous. This is Arcade Fire at their simplest, laziest and most uninspired. There are still bits here and there to enjoy, but there's at least 6 throwaway tracks. This is a really steep drop for them...
