Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 13% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 74.3/100, a mean average of 73.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 74.4/100. The standard deviation for this album is 16.0.

The guitar interplay between Christopher Thorn and Rogers Stevens is what stands out for me. Sure there's Hoon's Axl Rose like vocal delivery, but what really brought home this album for me were the guitars of Thorn and Stevens. For a split second they captured lightning in a bottle. (Edited)
A band that seems to be too easily and too often dismissed, I think. Change is formulaic, you might charge, but it is still beautifully executed. Holy Man is a super rocker. No Rain is a modern rock radio staple and deservedly so. But the clincher here is Tones of Home, a melodic rant against misunderstanding that bespoke Shannon Hoon's internal pain, finally leading to his demise. One hit wonder? Maybe. But you still wonder what coud have been if he had fought through it all. Grea-eat twin guitars at work here, btw.
Way more than a one hit wonder, Blind Melon never got the recogntion they deserved after No Rain. Holyman, Change, I wonder, and Tones of Home are personal favorites.
One of the greatest albuns of all time. It looks like an 2010's album, with huge techinich and timing. Listen to it as it should be and you will understand me... Pay attention to every detail, Blind Melon should be called Funky Progressive Rock Band...
Great album. Deserves so much recognition. So many people write it off as some sort of mainstream rock album that all sounds like No Rain but there is so much more to it than that.
