Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 17% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 74.2/100, a mean average of 72.9/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 74.3/100. The standard deviation for this album is 16.4.

If you went into this album expecting for more songs like No Rain, you will be disappointed. But if you like alternative rock with a bit of a psychedelic leaning, you won't be.
For me, this is one of the most underrated bands of the '90s.
I've always thought of them as a mixture of three sounds: folk, the heavier sounds of the '70s and an impressive funky groove. The sound is straight, simple, not so much production, it almost sounds like the garage rock revival that happened later in the '00s. I wonder what would've happened if they completed their third album.
The guitar interplay between Christopher Thorn and Rogers Stevens is what stands out for me. Sure there's Hoon's Axl Rose like vocal delivery, but what really brought home this album for me were the guitars of Thorn and Stevens. For a split second they captured lightning in a bottle.

Favoritas: Change, I Wonder, No Rain, Time
I was a kid like 13 years old. I bought this album because I liked the hit. I listened to it for a year. I properly traded it for another CD of greater value.
Listening to it now, that was a correct assessment. It was worth the year I held on to it, but was also totally worth trading.
Lyrical style and rhythms are still pretty good.
Songs I still like:
Tones of Home
No Rain
Change
To me, this record is like if that garage band who plays down the street from you never broke up, and eventually were able to pick out ten good tracks out of a hundred they have written and make an album.
Good alternative rock/roots-rock/psychedelic rock/folk rock album. Best 10 songs average is 83,0/100 and the album can get good 85/100. Far and away best song is "No rain" 95/100, followed by "Paper scratcher" 85/100. All other songs 75-80/100.
Don't brush this off as a one-hit wonder. Many quality tracks.
One of the greatest albuns of all time. It looks like an 2010's album, with huge techinich and timing. Listen to it as it should be and you will understand me... Pay attention to every detail, Blind Melon should be called Funky Progressive Rock Band...
