Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 2% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 77.6/100, a mean average of 76.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 77.7/100. The standard deviation for this album is 16.0.

“I'm burnt out from a 3 week roadtrip with my kids, BUT I will be adding my 2 cents shortly. I consider both Heaven & Hell and Blizzard of Ozz to be total classics and some of the best metal albums of 1980. 1980 was one of the most important years in the history of metal and both albums were a key…”

Brilliant debut album. Great songs right through. Deserves more credit than it gets. Paul Di'Anno's vocals give a different rawness than what was to come when Bruce replaced him, but in no way is he a bad singer. Suited the songs and style very well. A great album. (Edited)

A classic by Maiden right off the bat. This does not come near the greatness of their two masterpieces (Number of the Beast and Powerslave) but is a great warning that here is a band to count on for some heavy metal. Best track: Running Free.

One of the best debuts ever. Still only a glimpse at what was to come.

This album rocks. Metal with punk attitude. Paul Di Anno added that touch!

I prefer Bruce's vocals but Di'Anno is good too. Great for a debut, showcase of what was to come. Transylvania is great instrumental piece and Phantom Of The Opera shows their capable of doing more advanced metal. (Edited)
