Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 73.4/100, a mean average of 71.7/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 73.4/100. The standard deviation for this album is 16.0.

Very upbeat, bouncy and catchy in the front half. I thought it dipped substantially at the back though. Still a good album. I'd rate it as one of their better.

For me they continue to deliver great, enthusiastic pop tunes with a bit of cheeck, grin and gallusness - the positive connotation of gallus as in with a bit of a swagger. For me there are about 7 great tunes on here with Katherine Kiss Me my personal favourite on here

Only hearing this 2022 having enjoyed their sound from afar. I don't think it is as strong as FF or You Could Have It So Much Better - but it still has interesting, energetic sound with great pop hooks

Franz Ferdinand nowadays sound like a band who really had a signature sound and went with it. Most thought they were poised for going much further. This album marks the first where they didnt have a top 10 hit single in the U.K but i think thats more due to the changing landscape of music and its consumption in the late noughties.

They can surely write great hooks and it shows. This might be their most experimental record but that doesnt mean some kid a level left turn. Its just good old Franz with slightly different instrumentation and a somberer tone throughout.

All in all this makes for some of their most appealing deep cuts "Live Alone" should've been a single and the fact that they refused money from Burguer King to make "bite hard" their 2009 ad campaign theme song goes to show that Franz seemed pretty comfortable not being as comercially relevant as before.

Still the first idea for the album was to work with pop-giant producers Xenomania, which could have been awesome and very ambitious. However it seems they couldn't wake up at the right time for studio sessions lol (can relate)

Totally worth it.

One of the worst albums of the 2000s, this has every sign of a band fulfilling a contract with some insipidly hamstrung, workmanlike yet completely incoherent arrangements stapled to the most cynically humdrum lyrics imaginable. Franz Ferdinand was always a more inspired and colorful band than particularly profound, but this is the exact opposite of all that, offering at best half-assed professionalism while every song just remains a chore to sit through. This is frozen dog shit passed off as cool and elegant pop, and it's just atrocious.

Secretly their best album. No it doesn't have the hit singles, however this is FF at their most experimental, on a well produced project which has a great flow. Unlike much of the indie of the era, this has aged well.

For me its their best album.

I find very odd why is not higher in the top rank of album in 2009, or almost, any top-rank.

I feel like all the album it happend in a house party. Went you start with beers or cubas or alcoholic beverages , later some kind speed, and at the end with sun light and a mess of yourself, you go home trying to remember what just happend.

Franz Ferdinand's third album expanded the sound from their previous albums without taking away anything from their established sound. "No You Girls" is one of the best statements on the differences between the sexes in contemporary times, and "Lucid Dreams" is the band's most ambitious track. The single version is great, but the album version is its own animal. In my opinion, it's Franz Ferdinand's best album.

A really nice album, very stylish, i love that "80s disco" (?) sound and bass riffs in most of the songs!

What's this doing at 23rd best of 2009? This should be in the top 10 of that year. It's not a perfect album, but it's pretty good.
Best tracks: No You Girls, Lucid Dreams, Ulysses
Worst track: Can't Stop Feeling
